danke

Tuesday was Otis' birthday. It was a day that I let out a huge sigh of relief because I was finally able to share with him the special surprise that had hit our mail box a month before.

These three gorgeous photos were wrapped up and opened by a suprised and delighted beau: (did I really just write the word "beau"?)

Shea

Some of you may recognize these lovely shots. I first discovered them over at Susan's ever inpsiring Sulu design site. She had been on a field trip with her students and took the most gorgeous photos of Shea stadium. The photos captured the stillness and beauty of the ballpark in such an enchanting way. I immediately thought of my rabid Met's fan boyfriend.

When I mentioned how much I loved them and how much my boyfriend would love them, Susan sent them to me in the mail!

how sweet is that?!!!!

I have had to keep quiet about this lovely gift in anticipation of surprising Otis on his birthday. But now that the cat is out of the bag I just want to publically say THANK YOU SUSAN!

That was so sweet of you...and Otis really appreciates the kind gesture as well. (especially since they are knocking down Shea next year...booo)

Have a great weekend friends.

ahem

hello all. Sorry for the long absence. I've been busy hopping between both coasts and buried under creative burdens at work...sadly this here blog had to take a seat on the back burner while I focused on the projects at hand.

But with lots of airplane time and a few decompression days at home (read: sitting on my chair doing absolutely nothing but knitting and watching television) I've been able to tackle quite a few projects that popped up on my radar.

The purl bee has had some phenominal projects listed recently and I was thrilled to see a produce bag pattern listed for free.

during my marathon tv spree i watched a news story about how cities do not recycle plastic shopping bags. I was horrified. I had made the choice years ago to move away from paper to plastic so that I could recycle them.

the only way to remedy my impact was to knit my own reusable bag and I'm quite please with the results.

Bag

So pleased in fact that I already have another on the needles.

**updated to include the link to this GREAT pattern.

The cake that no one eats....(I swear this isn't turning into a cooking blog!)

Flag_cake_2

I have to come clean....every fourth of july I make my American Flag. I've talked about it before. No big deal.

It's just yellow cake with whipped cream and berries. Simple and easy, yet festive at the same time.

Flag_cake_1_2

Here's the catch:
this cake goes largely untouched....always!!! Hardly anyone eats it! BAH!? I don't get it. year after year after year this cake sits on the picnic table looking pretty as a picture with nary a slice removed.

(believe me, at this point I just chop it up hoping that the slices seem inviting)

Over the years I've become stubborn. It's the Fourth of July darn't and this is the day I make my cake...and I think it tastes good.

Now it's become a joke among my good friends, they know I am showing up with this thing...whether they eat it or not.

so there.
