week of color: orange and red and pink

Snack_2

I'm back from the Big Easy...Otis and I had such a good time.  It was just what we needed before the last big push before the wedding. Words can't explain the joy of that city. New Orleans vibrates. It seems like the city was built for the sole purpose of having fun.

I'm happy to report that this year felt much more ALIVE than last year...a very good thing indeed.

But now we're back...back home in Philly.

And I'm back on hiatus again too.  Which, while it stinks not to be bringing in some dough, is a very good thing at this point in "operation wedding".

In addition this little break will give me one more week of quiet before I start a very exciting new gig that will have me all OVER the place.  Should be fun.

Today I just puttered around the house and settled out of vacation mode.  It was so quiet around here...after 4 raucous days down south and it was just what the doctor ordered.

Above is a red/ orange shot.  The pattern on the left is a new rug I got from Anthro.  Lovely.

Flowers

And here is a shot I snapped last week for the macro challenge.  It was the last of the blossoms. When we got home yesterday everything is pretty much green.  All settled in...just like I'm trying to be.

I'll be back tommorrow for the last day of week of color and with some snaps from my trip.

peace

This is the view from our hotel. I LOVE IT HERE!

See you tommorrow for mellow yellow tuesday.

week of color: red

Yesterday I was cooking and I noticed that there is a lot of red in my little kitchen.

It was my grandmother's birthday and I woke up early and made her my Crumble Berry Cake and drafted a copy of the recipe for her.  Then I met up with her and my mother for lunch.  Nothing like dining with three generations of blondes.

I'm so sad the week of color is over.  how fun.
Have a great weekend.

week of color: blue

Sky
Below the clouds  I sat with good friends, delicious food and buttery wine. Peels of our laughter drifted up toward the puffs above as we sat and reminisced about our travels together anticipating the new ones to come.  The clouds obsorbed our laughter and hung lovingly above us, looking down on the warm moment below.  -MB Anderson

I just love this photo of the sky, it's one I snapped when I was in Florida on business.
The clouds the evening I snapped this were the cliche cotton balls lined with silver. I was eating dinner at the Delano with my Trading Spaces friends after spending our day off on miami beach.

I also finished upholstering the sofa.

I'm kinda proud of myself. Actually I'm really proud of myself.  I did it without an intsruction book and I think it came out great.  I never thought I could ever do something like this and shhhh don't tell anyone....it's really easy to do!

I'm planning on covering the cushions with Amy Butler's Gracious Lotus fabric from her Sunbloom line.  It's so damn expensive, but considering I've only spent $12 so far on EVERYTHING I might just treat myself. I was so inspired by photos on her website here.

we'll see.

week of color: black.grey

Here is a shot from my trip to the Middle East four weeks ago.  While on the aircraft carrier the USS Ronald Reagan I took a series of silohuette shots from the hangar bay looking out onto the Persian Gulf.

Admiral
This is one of my favorites: A portrait of the admiral we were traveling with.  He is a quiet, thoughtful man.  The kind of person who takes a moment to think before answering.

There was something striking about an important military leader staring out to sea while on an active carrier carrying out war missions on the flight deck above.  I often wonder what he was thinking about.

BONUS SHOT:
To give perspective on where I was on board.  Here is an F16 fighter jet on the same spot that I took the portrait above.

week of color: brown

Brown

Here is a gorgeous federal style house around the corner from my office. Gosh, I can't even count  the number of shades of brown in this shot.

I've had quite the 24 hours.  Lots of folk from my JCOC trip are in town for the Wharton Leadership Conference today.  It is great to see everyone and catch up.  It certainly has been interesting to swap stories of our reentry back into civilian life.

I was able to go to the conference for the morning.  It was beyond interesting and about as close to an Ivy League education as I'll get.

Speaking of brown....here is the progress of my new brown couch so far:

WHITE HOUSE

BONUS POST - In a break from upholstery I stumbled upon some glorious info. little birds and port2port are doing the week of color again.  Last time was so much fun!

Here is my first photo of the week for the color white.  I took it through our screen in the window from our office.  I took a cleaner one from the roof deck but I just like the texture from the screen so much.

yay!!  week of color!
